Study 5: Hair shedding
Dermatological study on hair loss
Method
- Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 26 healthy volunteers
- Mean age: 45 years, f/m = 2:1
- Number of hairs shed per day: ≤ 110. Subjects with higher hair shedding, measured during two daily combing sessions, were excluded from the study.
- Application: Hair gel with Dermatopoietin® or placebo for 2 x 4 days with a break of 10 days in-between. The gels were applied overnight and the volunteers allowed washing them out the other morning.
Measurements
Shed hairs were collected twice daily on predefined days upon combing and counted.

Results
Dermatopoietin® resulted in a significant and long-term reduction of hair shedding compared to placebo.
Figure: Dermatopoietin® and placebo changed hair shedding relative to baseline over a period of more than 3 months on the average by - 25.3 ± 5.5%. The corresponding value for placebo was +1.3 ±3.4%. The difference between the verum and placebo group was significant with p<0.01.
